Life's surprises

You know sometimes life just kicks out all sorts of surprises and you just gotta roll with the punches. Today was one of those days for me, my 17 year old daughter gave me one of those jolts today - wasn't the first time and I am sure it's not the last. Anyway, she woke up this morning with red splotches all over and itching, her right eye was a little sleepy as the eyelid did not want to open all the way. After observing her for a while I decided she was having a alergic reaction to something so I did what all good mothers do in this time of need - pulled out the old benadryl and gave her a dose. This was 4:30 am mind you the doctor's office (it's Saturday) doesn't open until 10:00 am - we called. After watching her for a while we noticed that it wasn't getting any worse and so she stated she would be alright and would notify me immediately if she wasn't feeling well or getting worse and I could go on to work. I called and checked on her 5 times before getting home and she said she was fine and nothing had gotten worse - mind you she's 17 -OK!! I arrived at home at 11:30 am only to find not only had it gotten worse - but she needed medical attention immediately. Her right eye was shut tight, her left was going, she had red rashes everywhere and her lip swelled up like Mick Jagger. So I spent the rest of the afternoon at the hospital only to find out they do not know what was causing the allergic reaction, but they sent her home with more benadryl and other meds to help get rid of the hives. They also informed me that I was a good parent in giving her the first dose of benadryl first thing that morning. Moral of this story is don't believe 17 year olds when it comes to their health, keep plenty of benadryl on hand at all times, and when in doubt contact the Internet - it did tell me what to do for hives before taking her to the hospital. Poor thing she is now fast asleep - looks like our Friday the 13th came a day late - can't wait until it is warmer and we can go play at such places as the one below. See you all later - Jen
